薛爱华（Edward Hetzel Schafer，1913—1991，旧译爱德华•谢弗），美国著名汉学家和语言学家，二十世纪下半叶美国唐代研究乃至整个西方唐代研究的领军人物。1938年获伯克利加州大学学士学位，攻读人类学；1947年获哈佛大学东方语言学博士学位。之后一直任教于柏克莱加州大学，直至1984年退休。曾出任美国东方学会会长，并长期主编《美国东方学会会刊》（JAOS）。 他深受传统欧洲汉学影响，重视历史语言文献的研究（精通十几种古今语言），加之他在民族学、民俗学和人类学方面的丰厚学养，使他的中国中古研究呈现出开阔的视野与多视角融合的特点。他的主要研究领域在中外史学界均享有盛誉，如：唐代的社会文化史，尤其是物质文化（名物）研究、唐代的外来文明、中原汉文化与周边民族文化的融合、道教与文学的关系，尤其是唐诗与道教在唐代文化中的作用等。 译者简介 ...(展开全部)
